This low-voltage technology can generate load, provide boost, and drive autonomously over short distances. The application of this engine type doesn’t stop there though. In the long term, traditional alternators and starters will disappear to make way for 48V and high-voltage solutions. In 2024, Valeo’s aftermarket division will launch additional low and high-voltage products such as 48V DC/DC, HV inverters, HV On Board Chargers, HV eDrives and HV e-motors. By seamlessly stopping and restarting the engine when needed, the Valeo stop-start StARS system transformed the way vehicles operated, and paved the way for a more sustainable and economic driving experience. This was an industry game changer and opened the way to new developments such as the ReStarter, also named «reinforced starter» , implemented in the early 2010s and the i-StARS in 2012.
