The performance of the gas discharge lamp depends on the pressure of the gas as well as the frequency of the electrical stimulus. Such lamps use gases like Argon, Neon, Krypton, Xenon or possibly a blend. Each gas, depending on its atomic structure emits certain wavelengths which translate in different colours of the lamp. Gas-discharge lamps offer high efficiencies and a longer life. However, they are more complex and require more electronics, such as ballasts devices to control them.
