Diagnosis Noise and vibration
3.3.2 Deterioration of the cover assembly centring
3.4 Noise and vibration
Reasons due to engine: The acyclism generates noise or vibration in the driveline or in the cab.
Diagnosis ò ò The wrong assembly of the cover assembly on the flywheel leads to an eccentricity which produces: • Unbalance (vibration) • Friction (noise and damage of cover assembly and clutch housing). ò ò This can be checked visually through the holes of the clutch housing. Attention Ɂ Ɂ Check carefully the flywheel centring type and compatibility with the cover assembly (centering pins, centring by outer diameter, by flat or by hollow flywheel…). Advice Follow Valeo instructions for mounting cover assembly on flywheel and bolting method.
Reasons due to the clutch: ●● Release bearing: bearing, pedal
●● Cover assembly: balancing, jamming, centering ●● Disc assembly: damper, deformation, facings Reasons due to the clutch environment: ●● Pilot bearing ●● Engine and gearbox mounts 3.4.1 Reasons due to the clutch 1. Damaged cover caused by friction Clutch inspection ●● Cover deformed at centering area. ●● Cover damaged because of interference with housing. Vehicle behavior ●● Friction noise when starting the engine. ●● Abnormal vibrations when increasing the engine speed
Cover assembly
3.3.3 Breakage of the fork contact area ª ª Refer to chapter 3.1 3.3.4 Judder caused by grease ª ª Refer to chapter 3.1 3.3.5 Seized tube-guide/seized sleeve ª ª Refer to chapter 3.2 3.3.6 Seized fork on ball pivot/axis ª ª Refer to chapter 3.2
Parts inspection The cover is deformed or damaged.
Vehicle behavior ●● It is impossible or difficult to shift gears. ●● Slippage of the clutch. ●● Clutch judder. Reasons ●● Wrong bolting of cover assembly or wrong centring on flywheel. ●● Wrong cover assembly part number was fitted. ●● The cover assembly does not correspond to the type or to the diameter of the centering of the flywheel. Diagnosis ò ò Wrong assembly of cover assembly on flywheel (positioning or incorrect bolting) can generate a deterioration of centring device and can damage flywheel with cracks (burrs on cover machined areas, break of the flywheel "edge") Attention ò ò Check the conformity of the cover assembly with the centring system on the flywheel.
2. Seized ball bearing
Clutch inspection ●● The bearing is seized or cannot rotate. ●● Fast wear and break of diaphragm fingers. Vehicle behavior ●● Wrong declutching ●● Noise in clutch
Damaged cover due to friction
Advice Follow the Valeo instructions for fitting and bolting cover assemblies.
Reasons ●● Positioning defect (centering) of cover assembly to flywheel during assembly operation. ●● Use of wrong part number of cover assembly (centering diameter not suitable).
Seizing of the ball bearing
Reasons ●● Wrong condition or incorrect adjustment of the clutch linkage. ●● The release bearing has been immerged in cleaning liquid. ●● Grease leakage ●● Overheating.
