StARS starter-alternator can be adapted to any automaker Micro-Hybrid strategy that takes into account a multitude of parameters related to the engine, clutch, gearbox, brakes or other comfort and safety equipment. Thanks to the belt driven technology, StARS allows to restart the engine even while processing to a stop, either if the driver unexpectedly changes his mind or if the system requires to be restarted for any reason (electrical energy needs, cabin cooling needs…). Valeo’s StARS was rewarded with the 2006 PACE Award, the Grand Prix of the EPCOS/SIA Jury and the 2004 Engineering Award, distinctions that underscore the keen interest shown by the automotive industry in this solution.

Starter Alternator Reversible System, a winning technology

Valeo StARS solution combines both alternator and starter functions in a unique machine.

In starter mode, the engine is started immediately and silently via the belt drive. For further savings the alternator mode features a new rectifying technology improving the electrical efficiency (less fuel required to charge the battery). These two decisive advantages make StARS the ideal product to achieve fuel savings and improve comfort, doing away with conventional discomfort of stops and restarts phases.
