VS - Electrical Systems From Stop-Start to Hybridization

The StARS controller The power controller is the brain of the system; it controls all working modes according to the vehicle status. The power controller is composed of: ●● A micro-controller board ●● A power board with MOSFET-type transistors ●● A heat sink ●● A housing ●● Connective systems (power and signal) The power controller can be located in the engine compartment, it withstands underhood thermal environmental constraints and generally located in the wheel arch area.

Phase 1

Phase 2

The three phase power cable makes the link between the machine on the engine block and the power controller on the wheel arch.

Phase 3

StARS - in alternator mode In alternator mode, the controller collects current from the stator phases, and converts the alternate signals with Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET’s) via synchronous rectification. The so called synchronous rectification also known as active rectification replaces the conventional power diode rectifier for a much higher efficiency.
