While the Micro-Hybrid StARS and i-StARS belt-drives are designed to comply with numerous cycling phases (hundred thousand!), there are, depending on the engine capacity, supported by a dedicated starter for early crank events when the engine is cold, this avoids possible belt slippage due to a very high torque demand and reduced driveability between the belt rubber and the pulleys V profiles.
