The reinforced starter ReStART

ReStart is the second solution in Valeo's range of Stop-Start innovation. This reinforced starter ReStart provides the extra durability needed for repeated stopping and starting phases, it has minimal impact on engine architecture and can be applied to a variety of engine types and displacements. Conventional starters do not comply with Stop- Start cycling features; new technologies had to be developed to support extended cycling. The reinforced starter is fitted in place of the conventional starter; the interface to the flywheel teeth ring is nevertheless adapted to support repeated operations.

Challenges faced by ReStART machines

Conventional starters are designed to withstand on average 50,000 cranking cycle in their all lifetime. Stop-Start functionalities requires extending starters lifespan to support much more cycles, the ReStarter range is mechanically reinforced to achieve up to 300,000 cycles.

Complementary to pure cycling resistance, the ReStarter range is well adapted for an improved cranking comfort and higher power efficiency.
