To ensure that the cranking phase will not be jeopardized by temperature, several parameters can be tuned. ●● Increasing Battery Size Increasing the battery size permits to gain in capacity. ●● Decreasing the Cranking Power Similarly to increasing the battery size, decreasing the cranking power permits to gain in depth of discharge. ●● Improving Usual SoC Increasing the usual Battery State of Charge, in other words reducing the usual battery Depth of Discharge, permits to gain in cranking capability, this is all about electrical consumers optimization and boardnet energy management. ●● Slowing down battery aging Similarly to increasing the battery size, slowing down the battery ageing permits to gain in depth of discharge. The battery ageing is related to numerous parameters, it can be improved by: ●● Protecting from ambient overheat heat shield new battery location in the vehicle ●● Protecting from regular uses with a low SoC ●● Using alternate battery technologies ●● Recover energy by some means The most common today for automotive application being the braking recuperation or regenerative braking.
