Cerametallic facing Pads of sintered friction material. Cushion Elastic system between 2 facings. Damper

Pawns Part attached to the sleeve for receiving the fork contacts. Siamese washer Corrugated double washer ensuring preload of the release bearing on the hooking system. Sleeve The frame of the release bearing. Snap-on/off Operation to connect/disconnect the release bearing to/from the cover assembly. Plastic sleeve Part which allows the sliding of the bearing on the tube-guide. Concentric Slave Cylinder (C.S.C.) Hydraulic actuator part. Fork Different type of contact The fork contact on the bearing is ensured by bombed fingers or rollers. Fork on axis The articulation of the fork is carried on a shaft. Fork on ball The articulation of the fork is carried on a ball. Clutch housing Part of the gearbox which links it to the engine and which contains the clutch. Tube-guide Part of the gearbox where the release bearing is sliding and through which the primary shaft. Clutch linkage Wear indicators Operation to reposition the piston of the slave cylinder to ensure the declutching travel and the facings wear. Slave cylinder System which allows the declutch operation with a low clutch pedal effort. For tracking the facings wear. Slave cylinder re-initialization

Elastic element working under high torque, to eliminate resonances transmitted to the driveline and/or to solve the issues of noise due to the engine working. Hysteresis Friction system inside the damper to absorb some of the vibration energy. Nominal torque Torque beyond which the elastic system will be inoperative. Organic facing Quality of friction material delivered in ring form. Pre-damper Elastic element working under low torque to reduce noise transmission in idle position. Release travel Minimum travel of the pressure plate required for disconnecting engine/gearbox. Stiffness Ratio between the nominal torque of a damper and its deflection. Bearing Anti-rotation Prevents the bearing from being driven in rotation by the ball bearing. Self-centring Radial displacement of the ball bearing into the release bearing to allow its centring on the cover assembly axis. Flat contact Form of the release bearing nose (fitted on bombed diaphragm fingers). Fork contact Part of the release bearing sleeve which is in contact with the fork. Hooking Attachment of the release bearing on the pull type clutch cover assembly. Toric contact Form of the release bearing nose (fitted on flat diaphragm fingers).

Glossary

Flywheel Centring flywheel by outer diameter The centring of clutch cover is carried by the "redan" on flywheel. Centring flywheel by pins The centring of clutch cover on flywheel is done by the pins installed on the flywheel. Centring flywheel by screw Centring clutch cover by the fixing screws. Conicity The height difference between the outer and inner diameters of the pressure plate or of the flywheel. Rating repair Maximum machining of the flywheel permitted by the manufacturer. Pilot bearing Pilot bearing located in the flywheel to support the gearbox input shaft. Redan Redan is the height difference between the contact face of the cover and the face of friction. Clutch cover Release bearing load Necessary effort on the release bearing for declutching. Belleville washer of diaphragm Full conical portion, between the outer diameter of the diaphragm and the diameter of the slot bottom. It is this part which exerts the clamp load on the pressure plate. Clamp load Pressure force of the cover assembly, to press the clutch disc on the flywheel.

Touch point The Touch point is the point at which the plates of the clutch connect as the clutch pedal is released. Hook cup Intermediate support between the release bearing and the diaphragm of the cover assembly. Diaphragm finger Lever part which allows moving the articulation ring of the diaphragm. Spacer Sector plate of steel for adjusting a height of mechanism. Pressure plate lift Axial displacement of the pressure plate to allow declutching. Snap-on/off ring The link between the cup and ball bearing of the release bearing. Strap Return spring between the pressure plate and the cover to allow the pressure plate displacement when declutching. Spin free of the clutch disc Minimal displacement of the clutch disc to allow a complete disconnection between the engine and the gearbox. Clutch disc Steel backing Metal disc which is bonded on the back of the facing to improve resistance to burst.
